To implement healthy diets in children, one school has started the Healthy Eating Policy. This policy asks parents to provide healthy and nutritious lunches for their children. If there is ever a time where they witness a student eating something unhealthy or harmful to their health, they will send a note home to the parents explaining why this isn't a good choice. While this may sound like a good idea, one mom, by the name of Oh So Busy Mum on Facebook, thinks the school is taking this a little too far.

After sending her daughter to kindergarten with a lunch comprised of a sandwich roll, two boiled eggs, an orange, kiwi fruit, and a handful of raisins, she never expected to get a letter sent to her home about her food choices. The note stated that the golden raisins packed were unacceptable due to their high sugar content. This mom was shocked at the response she received from the school. She knows that raisins have sugar in them since they are a dried fruit, but she didn't think that this was an unacceptable snack to pack in her daughter's lunch.

Various dietitians and nutrition experts have responded to this mom's Facebook post, saying that raisins are a perfectly guilt-free snack to feed your kids. While they do contain sugar, it is natural sugar that helps kids have energy throughout the day. This is also a great substitute for candy, which so many kids crave. A bit of natural sugar in your kid's lunch is nothing to feel guilty or to be shamed about. As long as you are supplying your children with balanced meals with nutrients, some sugar from dried fruit is perfectly okay.
