The first day of school is filled with nerves and butterflies and his royal highness Prince George felt no differently as he clenched his father's hand upon being walked to his first day of school. Unfortunately Duchess Kate, whose pregnancy was announced earlier this week was feeling to sick to attend her son's first day, according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

Prince George will go by George Cambridge when attending Thomas's Battersea. The school costs almost 18,000 pounds ($29,340) per pupil per year, according to ABC.

It seems like just yesterday the world first met Prince George!

Prince George graced us with his presence last July. We recap his action-packed first year with photos of Prince William, Kate Middleton and Baby George

After a fashionable pregnancy, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her adorable bundle of joy, Prince George Alexander Louis, on July 22. Here, the entire family poses outside of St. Mary's Hospital just a day after George's birth.

Kate keeps a firm grasp on a wriggly 8 pounds, 6 ounces of baby boy.

In their next official photo just a month later, William, Kate, George and their pet cocker spaniel, Lupo, make a photogenic family with the Middleton's garden in the background.

It's a big day for Prince George. In October, the Archbishop of Canterbury performed his christening at the Chapel Royal at St. James's Palace. The young royal has seven godparents!

Here's a close-up of the little prince. The Royal Mint issued a set of commemorative coins to celebrate his christening — now they're worth up to $80,000 a piece.

Quite the jetsetter! In April, George joined a well-dressed Kate and Prince William on their trip to New Zealand and Australia.

Taking in the local flora and fauna, Prince George is fascinated by a curious-looking Australian animal called a Bilby.

Always a charmer, George entertains Kate and others at a parents' group in Wellington, New Zealand.

Who could resist a face like that? George enjoys playtime while at the same event in Wellington.

In June, George displayed that he's fast on his feet (and looks great in a romper) as he watched his dad play in a royal charity polo match.

Prince George continued to watch William and Harry play in a polo match. With that pout, we can only assume Prince George was disappointed that he wasn't allowed to play.

Prince George, William and Kate grace the cover of the August 2014 issue of Vanity Fair.
