OMG Moments from Seasons Past
From wholesome activities to bad breakups and family drama, the Plaths have seen it all. Here's a recap of their most shocking and unforgettable experiences.
Meet the Plaths
When we were first introduced to the Plaths, they explained their specific lifestyle. It came as a shock to many that the kids never drank soda, didn't know who Justin Bieber was, and weren't allowed to have sugar.
Childhood Wounds Revealed
Micah and Moriah were slowly finding their indpendence and having brand-new experiences in the world. They believed that the way they were raised stunted them and caused issues now that they were older. The siblings sat down with Kim and Barry to discuss their upbringing. They felt they were too sheltered and weren't prepared for the real world outside their farm. Kim and Barry were hurt to hear this and believed they gave the kids the best childhood they could.
Lydia's Prayer Closet
When Lydia had something on her mind, she went to a special place to pray. She was texting a boy she met at a family faith conference, but she knew her parents were concerned about her having a long-term relationship with him over text. She already developed real feelings so, she asked for guidance in her prayer closet. According to Lydia, her faith helped her with self control and kept her from texting the boy she was interested in too often.
Moriah's Big Breakup
Moriah and her boyfriend, Max, were an adorable couple... until they weren't. Moriah kept the destruction of her relationship under wraps for a while before confiding in Micah. After their conversation about the breakup, Micah met up with Max to hear his side of the story and to make sure the truth was revealed.
Max admitted to kissing someone else. Later on, Moriah found out that Max lied and his cheating went farther than just a kiss. Moriah felt let down by him, but was thankful to have her family's support.
Then, Max posted a video on social media and blamed Moriah for the end of their relationship. Moriah was livid because she wasn't ready to talk about the breakup yet, but he went ahead with the video anyway. Ultimately, Moriah felt crushed all over again, but she was able to pick up the pieces.
A Strip Club Adventure
For Micah's 21st birthday, a small group headed to the strip club. Micah had the time of his life, but Ethan was anxious and felt shame for being there. It was wild to watch the two brothers have completely different experiences while sitting right next to each other.
Kim & Barry Call It Quits
Kim announced to Barry that she wasn't happy in their marriage anymore. Barry felt betrayed and didn't understand why Kim didn't want to work on things. Kim said she had been hurt too much and Barry felt she was being selfish. Kim thought it was selfish to ask her to stay. Kim also felt that Barry didn't listen to her several times in the past when she tried to resolve their marital issues. Barry admitted he took her for granted at times and was shattered to end their relationship this way.
And so, Kim and Barry separated. Eventually, they began the process for their divorce.
Kim's New Beau
Kim was seeing someone new and after a while, she informed her children. Not all of them were thrilled to see Kim moving on so fast, but she wanted to be honest with her feelings. She sat them all down to tell them and it was especially difficult telling her son, Isaac. Why? Because her new boyfriend, Ken, was Isaac's flight instructor and former coworker. Isaac wasn't sure how to react and asked how Barry took the news. According to Kim, Barry said, "That is sad."
Later on, Isaac said Ken was a good guy and that he would always support both Kim and Barry as they moved forward.
Ethan & Moriah Estranged
Ethan and Moriah were on bad terms. There was a disagreement about the ownership of Moriah's music and things turned sour fast. Ethan felt torn between his marriage and his family. After being at odds for a while, Ethan and Moriah both visited Micah in Los Angeles along with Barry and Isaac. Since they were going to be in the same spot, they had a conversation about their initial fight and the lingering silence between them. Moriah showed her support for Ethan and they were able to move past their issues.
Ethan's Divorce
Ethan traveled to the Plath family home and updated his family on the status of his marriage. He explained how that things just weren't going to work, no matter how hard they tried. The conversation with all of the siblings shifted to a one-on-one chat with Barry. Ethan felt rushed, confused, and upset about all of it. Barry offered his support and advice. Since Barry was still going through his own divorce, the father and son connected through their very similar situations.
Boat Sweet Boat
Kim moved on and moved out, and her new abode of choice definitely took everyone by surprise. Kim bought a boat and enjoyed a peaceful life at the dock. There were some adjustments she made in order to live in the houseboat and she got used to everything pretty swiftly. The older kids had so many questions about her new lifestyle, but they were mostly just glad that she was happy with the change.
Kim & Barry Under One Roof
At this point, Kim and Barry had not talked for a while, let alone slept under the same roof. They both agreed to help Moriah shoot a music video in Tampa, which meant staying at a house that she rented for the occasion. Unfortunately, things were just as awkward as one would image.
Barry & Ken, One on One
While the family prepared for a concert together, Barry and Ken had a moment to sit down and chat for the first time. It was tense seeing the two men face each other head on. In fact, it could've easily been awkward or uncomfortable, but both men were cordial and had a nice conversation about the kids' band. Best case scenario!
Moriah's Ex & The Family Concert
Moriah wrote several songs about an ex-boyfriend and wanted to perform her work. After talking with her siblings, they decided to host a concert and play together, just like when they were younger. The planning process was chaotic and to make matters worse, Moriah's ex showed up and talked to her about their failed relationship. Her family was shocked to hear this and Moriah even asked her parents to meet with him. However, there just wasn't enough time for that kind of conversation — the concert was quickly approaching!
In the end, the Plaths pulled it off and created a new memory with their music.
Saving the First Kiss
Lydia opened Season 7 with a whirlwind romance. She introduced her boyfriend, Zac, whom she met in a church group while visiting Colorado. After just three months, the couple knew they wanted to be husband and wife — without ever having their first kiss. It was Zac's idea to have their first kiss on their wedding day and Lydia agreed.
This took the entire Plath family by surprise and only Barry seemed to be fully on board with their rapidly moving relationship.
Zac Proposes to Lydia
Zac was beyond excited to propose to Lydia, but the family on the other hand... They weren't so giddy. Veronica arrived in a sequin dress — even though Zac requested church attire — because she felt he was being bossy. While they were setting things up, Ethan started a small fire in the grass and made his opinion very clear. He even hoped that Lydia would say no when Zac asked her to marry him. In the end, the whole family showed up to support Lydia, but they weren't too sure about the marriage itself.
Micah's Infidelity
Micah and Veronica's relationship had its ups and downs, but they were visibly struggling during Season 7. Veronica had a strained realtionship with the Plaths after falling out with Moriah and Micah felt torn between his girlfriend and his family. Then, Veronica revealed that there was more to the story. She explained that Micah cheated on her with different women and she covered for him for a long time. Ultimately, all of these events created lots of resentment for both of them.
"Are You Gay?"
Ethan and Micah sat down with Zac and asked him a burning question. They explained that it was hard for them to support Zac and Lydia's quickly moving relationship, especially with their lingering suspicions about Zac's sexuality. Zac told the brothers he wasn't gay and that he was all in on Lydia. Although Zac tried to set the record straight, it was clear that Ethan and Micah weren't fully convinced.
Zac & Lydia's Wedding Day
The couple had a beautiful weddding day! However, there were definitely some hiccups behind the scenes. Veronica suspected that Ethan's girlfriend, Teegan, had an account on an adult website and refused to interact with them, Ethan let out his anger on some folding tables, and the family aired out their final concerns to Lydia the night before the wedding. Ethan and Isaac considered objecting during the ceremony, but Zac and Lydia's pastor conveniently skipped that part and went right to the first kiss! Despite all the chaos, the newlyweds were thrilled to start a new life together.
After the ceremony, Moriah confronted Veronica to talk out their differences. Then, Veronica saw Micah taking photos with Isaac and his girlfriend, Kaylynn. However, Veronica thought Kaylynn and called Kaylynn a degrading name meant for Teegan. This paved the way for more drama down the road...
The Incident
Late at night, Micah told Isaac to respect Veronica and laid his younger brother on his back, expecting a play fight to ensue. Unfortunately, Isaac took all of his emotions out on Micah, hitting him in the face and causing a lot of damage. Micah drove off and ended up in the hospital to get his nose stitched up. Zac and Lydia left the property, not having a clue about the post-wedding incident.
The family gathered the next morning and pointed fingers at Veronica, saying she was the root of the problem. Veronica said she didn't control Micah and Isaac's arms when they chose to fight, but the family felt she sparked the fight by calling Isaac and Ethan's girlfriends disrespectful names. Veronica then revealed to everyone that she had been talking to Olivia for months.
