This Single Lady Created a Hilarious Instagram For Her “Not Engaged Life”

She’s inspiring the #notengaged hashtag

At a certain point in life, it can feel like everyone around you is getting engaged. If wedding bells aren’t in your near future, watching all of the dream wedding plans unfold and social media updates of beautiful engagement pictures can leave you feeling sad and a bit left out. However, one woman who was feeling those pangs of sadness because her left hand is still bare turned those emotions into humor with a hilarious Instagram account.

Since 2016, Mary McCarthy has been documenting life as a single lady with the Instagram account @NotEngaged. But this isn’t just a bunch of selfies of McCarthy on vacation or at brunch. This creative lady only snaps pictures of the daily adventures of her left hand—the one that remains engagement ring-less. Her bio even read “I’m not engaged but I’m ok I promise. Follow the adventures of me and my unwed left hand as we realize things are ok.”

From trying on a donut as a pretend engagement ring to wishing she could pawn off the dirty dishes to her significant other, McCarthy entertains her 37,000 followers with shots of her left hand in super relatable situations.

"It's basically how I'm living my life, and how I'm single and I have my own apartment and how single girls are doing just as fine as everybody else," McCarthy told Good Morning America. "As jokesy and silly as it is, I try to skew it more to empowerment ... even though there's the emoji with the huge tears streaming down."

The New Yorker said she created the account two years ago after a friend’s engagement party, an adds "If it helps make a few people laugh or smile, that's all I need from it." So if you are feeling like you could use a few LOLs about not having a shiny diamond ring on your left hand just yet, check out NotEngaged because she will keep you in stitches.
