Sister Wives' Maddie Brown Brush Shared News of Her Daughter’s Amputation
“She is home and is recovering beautifully,” Maddie said.
Sister Wives' daughter Maddie Brush recently shared an update on her 1-year-old daughter, Evangalynn, who was born with FACTO syndrome, a rare medical syndrome that inhibits bones from fully developing. The sweet baby girl underwent several prcedures which doctors hope will help give her greater movement as she continues to grow.
“Evie received some major gifts for her 1st birthday,” Maddie announced on Instagram. “Her surgeon laid the groundwork for her new foot and mobility it will bring, by way of a boyd amputation. Another gave her some extra mobility in her hand, by clipping her webbing she had in her right hand.”
“She is home and is recovering beautifully,” Maddie added.
The couple originally opened up about their daughter’s condition in October 2019, shortly after her birth that August.
“This is one of the hardest things that Caleb and I have gone through and the decision to share almost as difficult, but after a lot of consideration, we realized that it’s the best thing for our daughter and there is a chance it may help other parents who may be struggling,” Maddie said at the time.
Maddie went on to explain that both she and her husband knew their daughter would be born with fewer than 10 toes, a condition doctors formerly thought was oligodactyly. However, when Evie was born, they found “our precious girl was missing more than just one finger. She was missing three fingers, a toe and her fibula. She also had a bowed tibia, a shortened forearm and some fusing in her fingers. It was at this point, the doctors diagnosed her with FATCO syndrome.”
In an interview with People, Maddie expressed that sharing news of her daughter’s syndrome instead of hiding it will not only help bring awareness to the condition, but also help Evie grow up to feel proud of who she is.
