These Aren't Your Average Engagement Rings

Many of the traditions of marriage stay the same year after year, but the ring trends seem to vary over time. After all, it is a fashion forward item! 1000-lb Sisters’ Tammy got engaged and her fiance, Andrea, chose a beautiful stone with her favorite colors instead of a standard diamond for the proposal.

In honor of Tammy’s engagement this season, we pulled together eight different engagement rings we are loving this year. Read on to see them all!

East-West Settings

Traditionally, many diamonds have been set vertical, especially for elongated stones like an oval or marquise. The east-west trend is flipping that, literally. Many are choosing to set their diamonds horizontally instead of vertically!

Chunky Bands

Back in the day, the trend was a thin band to emphasize the size of the diamond. That has changed. Now, chunky bands are in with plenty of gold (or your metal of choice) wrapping around the ring finger.

Cocktail Look

Cocktail rings have always been a fun and sometimes funky statement piece. Now, that look is making its way into engagement rings! These statement rings feature large colored gemstones or multi-stone arrangements to make a bold statement.

Antique Styles

Everything old is new again and in many cases, people are gravitating towards actual antique rings (that are passed down generations) or rings in that vintage style, whether it’s Victorian style or mid-century modern.

Marquise Diamonds

This once super popular cut of diamond, shaped similar to a football, is making a comeback with this generation. Whether it’s set vertically or east-west, it’s replacing some of the more classic round solitaires.

Different Gems

Just like Andrea chose to veer away from diamonds for Tammy's ring, so are others. We are seeing other gemstones taking center stage, from emerald to morganite and ruby to amethyst. No longer are people shying away from color.

Cluster Settings

Why have just one stone when you can have many? Cluster settings with gemstones or diamonds of different sizes are in style. Sometimes, there’s a main stone and other times, it’s more like a small collage of stones to make for a unique ring.

Sculptured Band

The band takes center stage in these rings that use the band as more than just a support for the diamond. The band is an art piece on its own. Some rings are sculptured bands with details that are just as interesting as the gemstone.
