Last season on Baylen Out Loud, Baylen and Colin got engaged and we are so excited to see the next chapter of their story in Season 2! Love is certainly in the air this fall as certain pop star is now sporting a ring from her favorite football beau. Whether it’s Baylen and Colin, Travis and Taylor, 90 Day Fiance's Veronica, or any other bride and groom to be, the engagement period is a special time for couples. However, it can also be a stressful time with wedding planning and all sorts of marital decisions.
Don’t forget to set aside a little me time, whether it’s to celebrate, have romantic moments, or prepare to spend the rest of your lives together. Here are ten fun and memorable things to do after you get engaged.
Take Engagement Photos
Yes, you will take plenty of wedding photos, but engagement photos allow you to be more casual — picking spots that are meaningful to you and dressing in a way that makes you feel most comfortable. Plus, it allows you to get comfortable taking photos together before your big day. These will definitely be pictures you treasure!
Take a Cooking Class
Taking a cooking class not only teaches you some tips and tricks in the kitchen that you can carry into your home kitchen, but it’s also a fun night doing something together. There are so many different themed cooking classes, from basic skills to an Italian feast and vegetarian to pizza making. You'll make meaningful memories and some delicious food.
Take a Dance Class
Dance lessons can be fun, sometimes awkward, but they're a great way to get closer as a couple. Use them to perfect your wedding dance and use it as an example for marriage — your toes may get stepped on occasionally, but you’ll laugh your way through it together!
Plan a Weekend Getaway
There are sure to be many fun and romantic trips in your future (hello, Honeymoon!), but taking a quick weekend getaway (even a staycation or quick road trip) can go a long way in the heat of wedding planning. Refocus on why you are getting married without all of the external pressures and you’ll be more relaxed going into wedding planning.
Make Registering Fun
Registering has an element of fun anyways, since you are picking out gifts, but why not make it even more enjoyable? Make a day of it with lunch, compare your individual top ten gift lists, find a special wish list item to register for, and make a game of picking out the stuff to build your home.
Recreate Your First Date
There’s something about going back to where it first began. We bet things are a lot different now. If your first date locale still exists, head back there to reminisce about your first meeting. What were your first impressions? Did you know this would be end game?
Make a Wedding Playlist
Whether you opt for a DJ, band, or you plan on doing the music yourselves, you’ll want to have some tunes pulled together that represent your tastes in music. Spend some time picking out songs you love that work for the vibe of your wedding. Make it for just the two of you or share it with all of your wedding guests during the weekend.
Write Love Letters
Writing your own vows isn’t for everyone, but writing a letter to tell the other person how you feel can be a lot less intimidating. Take a minute and put pen to paper (yes, get off your screens!) to share words of love and appreciation in something they can hold onto forever.
Plan Surprise Dates for Each Other
In the heart of planning, it’s easy to forget to take some time to do something nice for one another. Planning a surprise date like an adventure to the newest ice cream shop, tickets to a concert, or a fancy homemade dinner can be a great way to acknowledge each other throughout the planning process.
Start Planning Your Honeymoon
If you choose to go on a honeymoon, the engagement period is a great time to start figuring out what you want to do. Think about destinations, excursions, and the time of year you want to go. It’ll make it easier to handle this before you get into the thick of wedding planning, and you can wanderlust about all the places you want to visit once you’re married!
