The At-Home Retreat of Your Dreams
If you dream of what it might be like to have a romantic moment like in an English period drama, you’re not alone. Inspired by the upcoming season of 90 Day: The Last Resort which takes place at Thornbury Castle, a 16th-century Tudor style manor in Gloucestershire, England, we pulled together some ideas for romantic dates that could take place right in your own home.
Afternoon Tea with Conversation Cards
What’s more British than afternoon tea? Prepare a day date with a spread of tea, mini sandwiches, and your favorite treats. Use it as a chance to connect with your partner by adding in conversation cards, prompting each other to share about each other and your relationship.
Watercolor Sessions
There’s something special about doing an activity together that may feel slightly out of your comfort zone. Painting or even sketching together is a great way to bring you closer. Choose a beautiful landscape, the sunset, or even painting portraits of each other.
Evening Sunset or Garden Stroll
Walking in nature together can be soothing and a great way to reconnect with each other. It stands out from your day-to-day activities and it can feel very romantic. Take a leisurely walk around sunset or if you have a garden or park nearby, use that as your destination. Really soak in the surroundings and each other.
Spa Moment with Essential Oils
The smell of lavender is very regal and a must to set the scene for your date with an English twist. Bring in a masseuse, buy a few face masks from the drug store, or take turns giving each other foot massages with lavender essential oils. The best way to relax and reconnect!
Period Dramas & Picnics
There are so many great period dramas that bring British romance onto the screen. Set up a picnic in your living room (or your tv watching room of preference) and settle in for a few hours lost in someone else’s drama and love story.
Candlelight & Poems
The lost art of poetry can be uber romantic, so why not try your hand at it. Challenge your partner and yourself to write each other love poems. They don’t have to be long, just a few sentences about what you mean to each other can go a long way. Set the mood with some beautifully scented candles.
Planting a Garden
Gardens in England are oh-so romantic and even if you may not have a rose garden fit for a queen, you can certainly find space to plant a few flowers. It could be in pots on the porch, as part of your landscaping or even hanging plants. Adding in a few favorite flowers of your choice together is a romantic idea you’ll continue to be reminded of every time you water, trim, or walk by your plants.
