What Did Meghan Markle Have Hidden in Her Wedding Dress?

September 27, 2018

Most brides know this tradition well: on your wedding day you need something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Even though the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be over, we are still learning romantic and semimetal details of their wedding day--like the new Duchess' something blue.

In a new television documentary called Queen of the World, Meghan displays her gorgeous Givenchy wedding dress and veil. She says that this is the first time she has seen the dress since saying "I do" to her prince and simply cannot stop gushing over the beautiful gown. "It's amazing, isn't it?" she says.

However, that amazing cathedral veil had a little something extra hidden inside. The Duchess revealed that she had a piece of blue fabric from the dress she wore on her first date with Harry sewn into her wedding dress. What a perfectly sweet something blue for the Duchess.

When talking about the veil, she said, "The work that they did here is just so beautiful." She then adds, "Somewhere in here there's a piece of...did you see it? The piece of blue fabric that's stitched inside? It's my something blue. It's fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date."

In the documentary, the Duchess described her May wedding on the grounds of Windsor Castle as a "magical day." She also added that the spectacular veil also had a special meaning for her husband and new family. Designers embroidered the veil with 53 flowers that represent each of the Commonwealth countries.

"I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn't know," she said "And he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together, and I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction and appreciation for the fact that we understand how important this is for us, and the role that we play, and the work that we're going to continue to do in the Commonwealth countries."

The Duchess also requested that two of her favorite flowers were also added onto the veil - the winter sweet poppy, which grows at Kensington Palace, and the California poppy, the state flower of California.

If you are hoping to get a closer look at her dress and veil--you are in luck! Her dress and outfits from the wedding will be on display at Windsor Castle in an exhibition called 'A Royal Wedding: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex" from October 26 to January 6 2019, so you'd better book your flight now to take in this piece of royal history.
