A Sheath is Straight to the Point
Don't let the simple cut fool you. This dress style can be as embellished or as minimalist as you choose.

Sheath dress by Hayley Paige
Simple and completely unfussy, this slim-fitting style has a narrower silhouette with a straight cut that just barely hugs your hips. And while it shows off your shape, it’s not super body conscious. Right now brides looking for something more modern favor it, but thanks to its simple design, it still has a classic feel.
“The beauty of a sheath dress is that it can be really comfortable, simple, and lightweight. It’s a great style for showing off the bride,” says Anna Walsh, co-owner of A & Bé Bridal Shop. “It’s a style for a confident bride. One of my favorite examples of this is Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s wedding dress.” But if you love the shape and want a little something more, Walsh mentioned that she’s been seeing unique details like mesh cutouts, cool necklines, and ornate appliques.
She also stresses how important it is to choose the right undergarments for this dress because of its loose feel and lack of structure. Be sure to try on the dress with whatever shapewear or underwear you think you’ll want on your big day. You need to make sure you’re supported. Keep in mind that this style can also have a low back which can limit your options. Walsh recommends talking to your stylist about what your choices are so that you feel both beautiful and comfortable on the big day.
