Here's Our Honest Review of the Shark FlexStyle Air Drying & Styling System Before You Buy

When I first saw that Shark was coming out with a hair styling system, I knew I had to see what the hype was all about. Having naturally curly hair, I was already on the hunt for a good blow dryer with a diffuser, and the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System checked all of my boxes and more.

The set I ordered came with a curl-defining diffuser (with expandable prongs for long hair!), a paddle brush attachment for straightening, an oval brush attachment for blowouts, two auto-wrap curlers, a styling concentrator, alligator clips, and a rubber resting mat. Once I opened that package, I couldn’t wait to see if the results could truly rivaled that of the Dyson Air Wrap.

Hair Dryer & Diffuser

First, I tested out the curl-defining diffuser attachment. After washing, conditioning, and applying my usual styling products, I folded the hair dryer base into a 90 degree angle, popped the diffuser on, and alternated between low heat and cool air using the cooling button. I went section by section, giving extra attention to my roots, and my hair went from flat and wet to dry and voluminous in only 25 minutes! This will cut my air-drying time by maybe four hours, so that’s a total win in my book.

Oval Brush Attachment

Next up was a blowout with the oval attachment. After I washed, conditioned, applied my favorite leave-in conditioner, and used Olaplex No. 7 as my heat protectant, I rough dried my hair until it was just barely damp. Then, I sectioned off all of my hair and attached the round brush to the hair dryer base. I placed the round brush underneath each section and slowly moved down to the ends of my hair using a little tension and medium heat. I immediately followed up with another pass of cool air and once I was finished, I couldn't believe I had actually created a successful blowout!

Auto-Wrap Curlers

Finally, I was especially excited to try out the auto-wrap curlers, the attachments that had the most to live up to. Once again, I sectioned off my hair (now freshly blown out), and attached the curlers. They have arrows on them that signify the direction your hair will flow once it starts wrapping, which is pretty handy.

There was a slight learning curve with these attachments, but once I got used to the motions, I was able to achieve shiny, bouncy curls in a fraction of the time it used to take me to straighten and use a curling wand after. You just take a section of hair, hold it up to the curler, and the air will grab the piece and automatically start wrapping it around the barrel. Hold for 10 seconds on medium heat, blast with cool air for 10 seconds, and you're done!

I applied Olaplex No. 7 again to smooth out any flyaways or frizz and I was amazed by the finished look. I felt like I had just stepped out of a salon! Best of all, my hair was still super healthy. Now, three days after styling my hair, I can confirm that these results actually last.
