Jaz and Nesha went from roommates to best friends and were each other's best supporter. Jaz wanted to change her life, get outside more, and improve her health in order to be the best mom she could be. Nesha had her own weight struggles and agreed to join Jaz on her journey!
They discussed how some things were more difficult for them because of theeir current sizes. Nesha was so proud of Jaz for swimming in the pool with her even though it was painful to get in and out.
The roomies went out to eat at a special sushi restaurant. Jaz hadn't sat down at a restaurant in a long time and she was floored by the conveyor belt that constantly brought food into the dining room. The ladies enjoyed themselves... until they looked up the calorie contents for some of the rolls they ate. They thought that sushi would be "healthier," but realized they'd have to do more research moving forward.
Jaz made an appointment with Dr. Nouri to discuss weight loss surgery and Nesha came along for support. At the appointment, Jaz weighed in a 630 pounds and Dr. Nouri said she'd need to drop to 500 pounds to be considered for the procedure. Nesha shared that she recently weighed herself at 425 pounds, but preferred to lose weight with Jaz naturally instead of having surgery. "Whatever she has to do, I'm in full support," Nesha said.
Dr. Nouri prescribed Jaz a weekly weight loss shot and it helped decrease her appetite. Each week, her dosage increased and after avoiding the scale for a while, she decided to weight herself. She lost 40 pounds!
The roomies tried out water aerobics! Jaz had a hard time entering the pool, but with Nesha and the intructor's support, she was able to join. They had a fun class and found a great way to stay active together.
Jaz asked Nesha to attend her family's Sunday dinner. She planned to tell her loved ones that she was working toward having weight loss surgery and she was worried about how they'd react. Nesha agreed and although she was uncomfortable by some religious undertones and was asked to say grace, she wanted to give Jaz her full support.
When Jaz told her family about the surgery, they didn't take it very well. Ultimately, her mother, Sharon, said she'd be there for her either way. And even her grandmother — the head of the family — approved if it meant Jaz would be happy and fulfilled. For both roomies, Sunday dinner went much better than expected!
Jaz was 60 pounds down and had six weeks left to lose another 70! To celebrate, Nesha made her a special nutrient-rich concoction that incorporated different fruits and sea moss. It tasted exactly how it sounds.
Nesha met up with her friend, Bree, and shared that she missed having Jaz as her "food buddy." She explained how she'd cook meals and Jaz would only be able to finish a small portion. Jaz's experience also made Nesha question if she should follow the same oath with weight loss injections and surgery, but she wasn't certain. Bree was also friends with Jaz and understood Nesha's concerns.
Nesha was concerned about Jaz not getting proper nutrients because of her low appetite. Jaz was more concerned with her increased pain since starting her weight loss shot. So, she set up a video call with Dr. Nouri and admitted she wasn't having enough protein. Dr. Nouri suggested Jaz take a break from the shot in order to replenish her body with the nutrients she needed. Jaz was worried she'd enter a weight loss plateau without the shot.
Jaz had a medical emergency and was treated by the on-set medic. Once she was stable, she was advised to go to the hospital, so she and Nesha went on their way. Jaz was scared of what the doctors would say.
With medical guidance, Jaz made the decision to stop using her weight loss shot. Losing weight became harder and she visited a therapist get through her rough patch.
Nesha's mom annouced the closing of daycare she worked at, which meant Nesha would have to find a new source of income. She had many talents and hobbies, but began her next chapter with baking.
During this time, she and Jaz had some miscommunication about a workout class. Jaz thought Nesha would drive her, but Nesha said she never agreed to that and had to deliver the cupcakes she made to a client. This friction, on top of other recent issues, was truly testing the roomies' friendship.
As they moved past their spat, Nesha joined Jaz at her next visit to Dr. Nouri's office. Unfortunately, Jaz didn't meet her goal of 500 pounds. She weighed in at 530 and couldn't undergo surgery just yet. Jaz was disappointed in herself, but she wasn't about to give up.
