I miss the days when I could dress my kids in whatever I wanted. Nowadays, it’s an argument just to get them in clothes that match. As they get older, they are both finding different ways to express their very different personalities.

One place where I used to love to add a little flair as a kid was with my school supplies. I wanted every Lisa Frank folder, glittery pen, and cool planner out there. Not to mention, a fun and funky pencil case.

It seems that with current schools (at least the ones around us), most of the supplies are a little more prescriptive. Folders must be solid colored and most of the markers come in the Crayola classic pack. So, that leaves the backpack, lunchbox, and a few other places to get creative.

Enter Kicks by Sammy Back to School Collection. If you aren’t familiar with Kicks By Sammy, Sammy Handler started this business close to a decade ago when she was 18. She painted Keds shoes, and her designs became wildly popular. Over the years she’s expanded into creating graffiti-like designs for everything from beach towels to blankets.

We have a few different things from her collection — my boys each have amazing blankets and I have an awesome laptop case that I always get compliments on.

She recently launched a back-to-school collection and we opted for pencil cases and water bottles to add to our collection.

My son takes his water bottle everywhere and with good reason. It is a Camelback water bottle, so it’s high quality. Plus, it has his name on it and some fun, 5th grade-worthy designs.

The pouches are a little big to use for a pencil case, but they’re perfect to throw in sports bags for all the extra things you need to have with you or even to store smaller toys like Pokemon cards or LOL surprise dolls. Honestly, I would use one for makeup! The only thing I wish is that they were lined to make them easier to wipe down inside.

You have the option to add some personalization to pre-set designs. This could be a name, initials, or even the name of a school if you wish.

The bigger accessories, like notebooks and lunchboxes, are fantastic if you are looking for a special gift. They are on the pricier side because of all that goes into the artwork (The backpack is $120, and an average backpack can run around $50-$75) and the lunch tote is $42, but it is made of neoprene making it super easy to clean.

And for bigger kids (and adults), the laptop cases are great. They are lined and easy to throw in a backpack or take as is on the go.

Overall, the accessories are a bit of a splurge, but they are well made and who doesn’t love something custom? They would make a great gift for a birthday or for someone starting high school or college!
