Celebrate Yourself
If you’re single, Valentine’s Day can feel like a dreaded holiday, but it doesn’t have to be. Let’s flip the script on love, like the alums on 90 Day: The Single Life and instead, celebrate the most important person to love — yourself! This doesn’t mean you need to spend the day solo either. After all, things can be more fun with friends. Here are a few great ways to have fun on February 14!
Spa Day
Treat yourself! A day at the spa is the ultimate form of self-love. Make it a day with the girls or a day all on your own. Can’t make it to the spa? Make one at home. Light candles, pour some tea, and treat yourself to a face mask and a manicure.
Theme Night
The theme could be love or you could go completely rogue and have a fun theme party with friends that has absolutely nothing to do with Valentine’s Day. Do a "board party" where you all bring a different themed board of treats. Do a dress up party where you dress as your favorite musician. The possibilities are endless, but we can guarantee some laughs and a lot of fun.
Galentine's Day Brunch
Technically, Galentine’s Day is the day before Valentine’s, Day but you make your own rules. Sometimes the best love is that of friendship so why not celebrate your girls and guys! Have everyone bring their favorite brunch dish, breakfast treat, or beverage and have yourself a late morning fete.
Flower Arranging
Miley Cyrus said it best when she belted out, "I can buy myself flowers…" Flowers add a lovely touch to your house and they don’t need to come from a romantic partner. Go buy yourself flowers or better yet, get together a group of friends for a flower arranging sesh. You’ll leave with a beautiful flower arrangement and a new skill set.
Cooking Class
The art of cooking is love, even if you aren’t a pro. Making yourself a nice meal at home is great, but learning how to cook from a professional is just a fun experience. You’ll meet, cook, and break bread with other people who are in the same boat. You’ll enjoy a delicious meal and have recipes to impress your friends and loved ones with after the class.
Dancing
Just let loose and dance! Dancing builds endorphins (aka makes you happy). Go out with your friends to a dance club. You can find one that fits your mold from 1980s pop to electronic dance. Your feet might hurt in the morning, but it’ll be worth it!
Gratitude Journal
If you want to look inward this Valentine’s Day, starting a gratitude journal is a great way to practice self-love. It’s easy to see the negative, we all do, but a gratitude journal will remind you of all of the good in your life. Start with one to three things each day and build up as you see fit.
Rom-Com Marathon
Even if you are single on Valentine’s Day, it doesn’t mean you need to completely ignore romance. Rom-coms are a great way to love and laugh. Put together a list of favorite flicks, grab your ultimate movie theater treats, and settle in with friends — or solo — for a night of laughs.
