About When Fates Collide
A remarkable documentary about two runners whose lives were defined by the controversial 3,000-metre final at the 1984 Olympics. The reigning queen of the track, American Mary Decker, had yet to win an Olympic gold medal. Her main challenger was Zola Budd, a teenage South African who ran barefoot. Budd was granted British citizenship in order to compete in the Olympics, and the media stirred up tension between the two competitors. Disaster struck when the two collided, and Decker fell. More than 30 years later, the former rivals reunite for a final shot at reconciliation and closure.
