Zooey Deschanel was born in 1980 to a show business family: Her father, Caleb Deschanel, is a cinematographer, her mother, Mary Jo Deschanel, is an actress, and her sister, Emily Deschanel, is also an actress. Deschanel spent her childhood traveling with her father to movie sets around the world but hit the spotlight in 2003 as a carefree and lovable holiday sales clerk alongside Will Farrell in the movie Elf. Since then, she has released four albums with her band She & Him and has been nominated for an Emmy for her starring role in the hit comedy series “New Girl”.

1998: Zooey Deschanel made her on screen debut on the TV series "Veronica’s Choice".

1999: Deschanel played Nessa Watkins in the movie Mumford.

2001: Starred alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the movie Manic.

2002: Played the older sister of William Miller in Almost Famous.

2002: Deschanel played best friend to the nerdy Dizzy (DJ Qualls) in The New Guy.

2002: Played the character Cheryl alongside Jennifer Aniston in the movie The Good Girl.

2003: Starred as Jovie, Buddy (Will Farrell) the Elf’s love interest, in the movie Elf.

2006: Worked alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in the movie Failure to Launch.

2006: Deschanel formed the band She & Him with M. Ward. Their first album, “Volume One” was released in 2008. Since then, they have released three more records, “Volume Two” (2010), “A Very She & Him Christmas" (2011) and “Volume 3” (2013).

2009: Starred with Gordon-Levitt again, this time breaking his heart as the character Summer in (500) Days of Summer.

2011: Played the character of Belladonna alongside James Franco in Your Highness.

2011-2013: Stars in the Fox sitcom "New Girl" as the title character, Jess. "New Girl" will begin its third season in September. Deschanel was nominated for a 2012 Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
