NYC Newbie Makeover

Body Type: Curvy

Cathy's oversized wardrobe and grandma taste in prints made her a winner in a What Not to Wear Times Square casting call. This self-nominated 32-year-old teacher has recently gone through a lot of changes. She moved to NYC from Virginia and has also lost a lot of weight, but she still wears the same clothes that hang on her new body. Cathy likes an edgier style but is scared to shed her old style for a new one. Will Stacy and Clinton be able to help this Virginia transplant meet her New Year's resolution of looking like a real New Yorker?

Fashion Don'ts:

  • Don't carry a purse meant for a 12-year-old.
  • Oversized clothes aren't flattering and make you look sloppy.
  • You don't have to exactly match things.

Fashion Do's:

  • If you don't have fit, you don't have style.
  • A deep v-neck elongates the neck.
  • Look for bold, modern prints.
  • Look for classic pieces like a wrap dress.
  • Jackets are great for teachers. They look professional for parents and they are easy to remove while working with students.
  • Add a pop of color to an all neutral outfit.
  • Make a statement with jewelry.

Nick Arrojo's Hair Transformation:

Cathy says she's not a short-hair kind of gal and wants to keep some of her length. Stylist Nick Arrojo compromises by giving her sassy bangs and a long, layered look using a razor.

Carmindy's Makeover:

Makeup artist Carmindy gives Cathy tips to highlight her great eyes with a few easy tricks. First, use a dark eyeliner pencil on the upper lash line. Carmindy likes to use the opposite of eye color when selecting eye shadow shades. Since Cathy has blue eyes, Carmindy sweeps a brown shade over the lid and finishes with black mascara on her lashes. With an application of a light lip gloss, Cathy is ready to conquer the Big Apple.
