Drab to Divine Divorcee Makeover

posted: 05/03/12

Body Type: Petite

Tami is a 42-year-old divorcee who dresses more like a teenage boy than a successful career woman. She has two styles: a weekend look of Capri pants and oversized T-shirts, and a work look of too-long pants and boxy striped blouses. Her friends worry that since her divorce nine years ago; she has decided not to participate in life and just to fade into the background. Stacy and Clinton will have none of that, and they try to show Tami how working on one's appearance can lead to momentous changes.

Fashion Don'ts:

  • No hoodies over 20.
  • Sweat pants should be limited to workout attire.
  • There's no reason any woman should own more than two pairs of sneakers — one to walk in, one pair to exercise in.
  • Sunglasses propped on the head are not an accessory or fashion statement.

Fashion Do's:

  • If you fit in your clothes, you look better.
  • Tweed jackets are great for fall.
  • Stacy and Clinton don't normally recommend long lapels, but for petite women, it's okay as it gives the illusion of a longer torso.
  • Small framed women look better in pieces that fit close to the body.
  • Pencil skirts are great.
  • Think of casual as real clothing, it's not active wear.
  • Get simple pieces with flair to mix and match between work and weekend.
  • Flat shoes with texture like faux snake skin are a great alternative for someone accustomed to sneakers.

Nick Arrojo's Hair Transformation:

Tami hasn't changed her hair since high school. She wants it sexy, wild and long but it's not healthy in its current state. Stylist Nick Arrojo convinces her to let him cut it. After removing a lot of length, Nick colors Tami's hair to darken it and remove the grey. Next, he razor cut it into soft, light layers and blow-dried it with a diffuser attachment.

Carmindy's Makeover:

Tami think she's plain but makeup artist Carmindy loves her eyes and explains that Tami needs an eyebrow grooming to really bring them out. After trimming and shaping her brows with tweezers, Carmindy shows Tami how to easily apply makeup for a natural look.

First, she applies primer for a natural glow. Next, to even out skin tone, Carmindy uses a liquid foundation and a loose powder to erase shine and set the face. For Tami's eyes, Carmindy applies a highlight shade under the brows, then black mascara to enhance the eyelashes. To finish, Carmindy applies powder blush to the apples of Tami's cheeks and a mystical mauve lip gloss to her lips.
