How has appearing on the show impacted your life?
I can honestly say that since appearing on the show I have changed my style and do follow the rules that Stacy and Clinton gave me. I've looked at the way I was dressing in the past and thought, "What the hell was I thinking!" I love the way I dress now and I'm glad I was able to be on the show and be able to see the problems I had with wardrobe.
What's the best style tip Stacy & Clinton gave you?
You don't have to show everything off to be sexy. Who would've ever thought I would say that? Now I look at other people and think, wow you really don't have to show everything off. It really doesn't even look good! The way I dress now I believe is sexy but not revealing everything.
What's one surprising thing you learned on the show - either about yourself, fashion & style, or about Stacy & Clinton?
I went into this experience negatively. I did not like what my friends and family had done. I wasn't happy with Stacy and Clinton and I really didn't want to listen to a word they were going to tell me. I came into this experience with a major wall up, trying to compensate for being hurt in the past. Through my time with Stacy and Clinton I was able to break down some of that wall. Not all of it, but some of it. All the people involved with 'What Not To Wear' showed me that they truly cared and wanted nothing but the best for me, which going into this was not something I was used to. I learned that I need to actually be confident in myself, and not just tell people I'm confident.
Thank you for everyone who helped me see that.
What was your favorite part about appearing on the show? Most challenging?
I think my favorite part was the reveal. My friends and family all know how strong-willed and stubborn I am, and prior to leaving for the city I told all of them I wouldn't let Stacy and Clinton change anything. I was keeping my clothes, my hair and especially my nails (neon yellow and all). So when all my friends showed up to see the new Tristen I know a lot of them were thinking, "Oh my God, what a hard time she gave them. And I know she didn't change anything." It was such an amazing feeling walking out and surprising them. It was wonderful to know how happy I made my family and friends.
The most challenging part was not walking off the set on the first day. I am very hot-tempered, so when I feel attacked I lash out, screaming, cursing, and leaving. I really wanted to quit and just say, "F this," because I really felt attacked. At the end of the day I can't say it enough about how positive this experience was; I just hate when people come up to me in the street and tell my what a witch I am and curse me off. There is still a part of me that wants to say something. But I simply smile and thank them for watching.
If you could give one message to Stacy & Clinton what would it be?
I would like to say thank you. I know I wasn't the easiest person to deal with, and I'm sure there was a lot of tequila while filming my episode. But I'm so thankful you guys stuck with me and saw it to the end. I am so thrilled with the final result and I'm so sorry you both had to go through all of that.
Thank you so very much for everything you did for me. You guys really changed my life for the better!
