Meet Minda Grabiec
By keeping an eye on the bottom line, Minda has Naperville Jewelry & Loan's long-term interests in mind. She may miss out on some of the fun in the shop, but it's worth it to her -- she wants a strong business that can weather any storm. It's her responsibility to watch the books and pull back the reins before spending outpaces revenue.
In her own words, she's, "frugal, not cheap." She's worked since she was 13 and has always relied on herself to keep her financial house in order. She's a life-long antique collector, garage sale fanatic and flea market regular. After college, she spent time in health care administration before going back to school for dental hygiene. Working nights and weekends to put herself through school, she enlisted the help of Tom, Nikki and her cousin Greg to put on gold parties where women could get the value of their jewelry assessed in a social atmosphere. This naturally led to the idea to open Naperville Jewelry & Loan. Her personality was a natural fit for the demands of the pawn business.
Minda doesn't mind taking the hard line after all other options fail. Her top priority is giving a fair price, but she’s often the one who steps in to deliver the bad news that an item is worth far less than the customer thought.
A new business can overshoot its capabilities. Minda is well aware that she's the grounding force that keeps this business’s feet on the ground. Her partners rely on her no-nonsense attitude to make quick financial assessments; Minda gladly fills that role.
