Extending over 34,000 acres, Denver International(DEN) is the largest airport site in the United States and the second largest in the world. It is twice the size of Manhattan.

Chicago Midway International Airport
Dedicated in 1927 as Chicago Municipal Airport, the airport's name was changed to Chicago Midway Airport (MDW) in 1949 in honor of the Battle of Midway fought during WWII.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport
Dedicated by President Truman as Friendship International Airport in 1950, the airport was renamed Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) in 1973.
In 2005, the airport was renamed Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, in honor of the Supreme Court Justice.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
The airport opened for commercial service in 1946 as Moisant Field, named after aviation pioneer Johns Bevins Moisant.
In 1960, following the addition of a new terminal and two concourses, the airport was renamed New Orleans International Airport.
In 2001, the name of the airport was changed again to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, in honor of the famous native-born musician's centennial.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the area in August 2005, MSY served as a hub to military and humanitarian flights that helped evacuate over 30,000 people to safety.
Commercial flights at MSY resumed service in September 2005.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
The airport was dedicated in 1929 as the Merle Fogg Airport, named after a WWI aviator who moved to Fort Lauderdale in the 1920s to run a flying service.
The airport became Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Station (NAS) in 1942 and was used and operated by the US Navy during WWII.
In January 1948, Broward County assumed control of the airport. Commercial service started in June 1953, and in 1959, the airport was renamed Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
In 1943, Ensign George H.W. Bush arrived at FLL -- then still known as Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Station (NAS) -- to train as a pilot.
He would go on to become the Navy's youngest pilot and, later, the 41st President of the United States.
