La China Divina (Chocolate Orange Cake) Recipe

  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup Hershey's Cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Sweet Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 whole orange
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup of water


  • 1/4 cup citrus marmalade
  • vanilla buttercream
  • orange peel shavings


Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 13x9x2 or an 8-inch square pan and line it with a sheet of parchment paper.

Stir together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in large bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in water. Batter will be thin. Pour batter evenly into prepared pan.

Bake 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes and remove from pans to wire racks. Cool completely.

Sweet Sauce Directions

Cut orange in half and squeeze juice into a separate mixing bowl with sugar and water. Pour sweet sauce onto completely cooled cakes.

Frosting Directions

Mix marmalade, buttercream, and orange peel shavings and cover cake with frosting as desired.

Garnish cake with more orange shavings.
