Read Mary's episode 5 recap. Miriam left to go back to Ohio in this episode. Were you surprised she made that decision? And that she didn't say goodbye?

Mary: Definitely not. I am not surprised. I clapped for her when I saw she wasn't there. I instantly thought: yeah, she went back to be with her son. That was a good choice. Being so homesick for your own children and then going to say bye would distract you -- she probably thought they would talk her into staying. Bates' girlfriend Rena told him that she didn't want to be together anymore, and he was really upset. What words of comfort would you offer him?

Mary: There's a lot of ways to comfort people without alcohol. I'd say, go to a park, be angry, do something to distract your mind. The makeover was a good distraction. [Editor's note: That's right! The group got makeovers this week. Check out their transformations in this photo gallery.] Even though Matt is trying to repair his relationship with his wife, he's still flirting with other women. Why do you think he's being so self-destructive? (Watch a particularly self-destructive scene.)

Mary: I don't know why he's acting that way. Let me tell you, he has to get ahold of himself, or he's going to ruin his whole marriage. What did you think of Vonda and Barbie's new looks?

Mary: If I looked as pretty as they did, I would never go back Amish. I've never had a lip wax, and I probably wouldn't. Bates' makeover was the most drastic of all. Vonda said a bishop might think he's possessed, dressing in leather and necklaces. What do you think?

Mary: That's probably what I would've said, with those necklaces. The outfit just didn't look right with the necklaces. The haircut was kind of cute. It's different, he's young and wild.
