Alan and Kirlyam are self-described homebodies who love laughing together.
DCL checked in again with Alan and Kirlyam to find out where they are now, after nearly a year of marriage. Watch their love journey unfold in this Best of Alan and Kirlyam video playlist. Who's the better cook in your relationship?

Alan: For the first two months or so, I was the better cook. Once Kirlyam got familiar with the food here, it didn't take long for her to turn into the better chef! What's your favorite meal or dish? Do you prefer home-cooked food or going out to restaurants?

Alan: My favorite meal is Brazilian Stroganoff that Kirlyam makes. It's SOOOOOO good! I love it! I prefer home-cooked meals, but it's nice to go out once in a while.

Kirlyam: I love lasagna -- it's my favorite dish for sure! But I have to say that I prefer the lasagna from Brazil, though. I like a home-cooked meal, too. Just us two. What's something surprising you've learned about your spouse?

Alan: I never knew that Kirlyam was such a great bowler and volleyball player.

Kirlyam: I never knew that Alan could do impressions, accents and beatbox. What time do you go to bed and wake up in the morning?

Alan: I can't go to bed until about 1 am, and I usually wake up at 7:15 or so.

Kirlyam: I go to bed around 11 pm and wake up whenever my husband does. What is the first thing you say to each other when you see each other at the end of the day?

Kirlyam: The first thing we usually say to each other when Alan comes home from work is "Eu estava com saudades!" "Saudades" has no direct translation in English. It describes a deep emotional state of longing for someone you love. Basically it means, "I really, really missed you!" What's your favorite thing to do as a couple? Any new hobbies?

Alan: Our favorite thing to do as a couple is to just relax and watch movies or our favorite TV shows together. A new hobby of mine is doing cool, simple DIY projects that spruce up the home.

Kirlyam: A new hobby of mine is that I learned how to crochet, and I love making socks! I'm also learning how to swim. What is your best piece of advice for solving an argument?

Alan: Well, first things first -- Kirlyam is always right, no matter what. Hahaha, but it's important to try to see the other person's point of view. Once you can truly see why the other person is feeling that way, it's so much easier to resolve an argument.

Kirlyam: Take a breath and really listen to the other person. Would you describe yourselves as homebodies or a couple out on the town?

Alan: We are definitely homebodies! We love staying at home just relaxing together. But we also love going out to change things up. In five years, do you see yourselves living in the same city? If not, where would you move?

Alan: We honestly have no clue if we'll still be in L.A. We both love it here, but it's always nice to have a change of scenery, especially if it's greener. Kirlyam loves the rain and so do I. If we were to move, we would want to go to either Oregon or the Washington area -- or maybe to Brazil. Who knows? What is one way you honor both of your cultures at home?

Kirlyam: We celebrate all the holidays of both countries. What three words best describe your marriage?

Alan: loving, fun, perfect

Kirlyam: love, happiness, eternal
