Just days after celebrating their engagement anniversary in early April, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard celebrated another momentous occasion - the birth of their first son.
People.com reports Israel David Dillard was born on Monday, April 6 at 11:49 pm. Coming into the world at 9 pounds, 10 ounces, Baby Dilly is as adorable as you'd expect. Both mom and baby are healthy and happy, though a little tired.
As a midwife student who's assisted in more than 30 births, Jill was very familiar with the pregnancy process and knew exactly what to expect. Besides a bout of morning sickness in the first trimester, she had an otherwise healthy and normal pregnancy.
She put her midwife knowledge to good use, especially when it came to her due dates. "I have told myself, 'First-time moms often go a week and a half over, so don't get discouraged,' " she told People.com. So she gave herself two due dates. And she was right -- she blew past her original due date of March 24 and went into labor right around the second due date, April 5.
The happy couple, who met through Jill's father Jim Bob, dated internationally while Derick did mission work in Asia. Jill visited Derick in Nepal (with Jim Bob chaperoning, of course!) and they began a courtship. Upon his return, Derick proposed in April 2014 and they were married in June in front of a thousand of their closest friends and family. They expressed an interest in starting a family quickly, and they didn't waste much time. In August, Jill and Derick announced they were expecting their first child to the delight of both their families.
Though Jill and Derick are looking forward to spending time with their bundle of joy, Israel will have plenty of aunts and uncles to look after him. He is the fourth GrandDuggar, joining Josh and Anna Duggar's children Mackynzie, Michael and Marcus.
Catch up on Baby Dilly's story so far and send your congrats to Jill and Derick.
