Your Answer to the Ice Cream Truck: Homemade Fro-Yo Sandwiches

There's nothing better than ice cream on a hot summer day, but, unfortunately for you and your kids, it shouldn't be an everyday event. And if your kids beg for ice cream every time they hear that familiar tune, mercifully there is an alternative. Fro-yo is here to save the day -- and we're not talking about the processed kind that comes from a metal dispenser and contains unpronounceable chemicals along with plenty of fake sugar.

Lately we've seen some delicious recipes for DIY fro-yo placed between cookies, graham crackers, and plenty of slightly healthier alternatives. Yes, it's still dessert, but at least it's filled with protein-rich yogurt and fresh fruit. It's a compromise moms will love, and the results are delicious. Take a peek at some of the most mouthwatering ideas, and the best part is that you can prep these treats in advance to break out on sweltering days!

Blueberry Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt Sandwiches

This recipe, from Sunset, uses blueberries, plain yogurt, and cream cheese to get its delicious flavor. Place it between graham crackers, and you're ready to go!

Skinny Strawberry Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt Sandwiches

With just five ingredients, this delicious dessert from Amy's Healthy Baking is easy and extremely tasty!

Mint Chocolate Chip Sandwiches

Though Janine from True Aim claims you can use ice cream in this recipe, she included her recipe for mint fro-yo, which contains vanilla yogurt, mint syrup, and chocolate chips (of course!).

Chocolate Cherry Fro-Yo Sandwiches

For the dessert lover that just doesn't have the time, this is your recipe. Instead of slaving away, just buy chocolate wafer cookies and low-fat cherry yogurt (or any flavor you like). Let the yogurt freeze (about 30-45 minutes) and spread it in-between cookies.
