Winter will be here soon and along with it comes the holidays, powdery snow, chunky sweaters, cozy fires...and dry, itchy skin. And while this may seem like an annual losing battle, the truth is there ARE some ways to prepare your skin. Check out our top five tips and let us know if you have any suggestions!

1.) Cover Up
It might seem like a no-brainer to layer up in the winter, but be sure to get full coverage. Wear gloves to protect your hands, scarves to protect your neck and chest, and a hat to protect your scalp. The less exposure to the blistering weather, the safer your skin will be.

2.) Shorter Showers
Unfortunately, the one thing everyone loves in the winter--a long, hot shower--is also one of the worst things for your skin. Hot water dehydrates your skin and leaves it more susceptible to getting damaged by the cold weather.

3.) Find a thicker lotion or cream
When the season starts to turn, trade in your light daily moisturizing lotion and start using a more durable, thicker anti-itch and hydrating lotion or cream.

4.) Exfoliate
Exfoliating helps to shed dead skin and increases the effectiveness of moisturizers.

5.) Stay hydrated
Even though you might be tempted to sip on a never-ending mug of hot chocolate all winter, be sure to continue drinking lots of water. Staying hydrated makes your skin healthier overall and will help prevent it from drying out as quickly.
