We are all guilty of participating in self-deprecating humor. It's funny, it shows you don't take things too seriously and sometimes it even makes you feel better. Most of the time we don't even realize that we are doing it. It wasn't until Anna Lind Thomas, or HahasForHoohas on Facebook, was called out by her husband that she realized something needed to change. From that moment, her and her husband decided to stop their negative self-talk and self-deprecating jokes around their children. She made a video for her comedy Facebook page to encourage others to do the same.

It all changed for Anna when she was looking at a picture of herself and joked, "have you ever seen a photo of yourself that's so shocking you have an identity crisis?" She went on to rant and laugh about herself, her body, her personality, etc. She thought she was being funny until her husband called her out on this horrible bad habit. He interrupted her and said, "Don't ever talk about yourself like that in front of our girls again because they're listening." These words stopped Anna in her tracks and made her realize that her daughters were learning from everything she did and said.

"It didn't hit me until I looked at my daughter who was looking right at me while I said horrible things about myself," Anna explained.

Anna realized that she had been talking so negatively about herself and, yet, she wants to teach her daughters to love themselves. Children look up to their parents and often mimic things that they do and say. It can be hard to teach your children to love themselves when you are constantly making negative jokes about yourself. This was a lesson that Anna learned that changed the way she parented forever.
