Many moms have big plans to stay fit during pregnancy. They look at moms on their social media feeds doing intense HIIT workouts, going on runs and hitting up their local spin classes. This all seems like a great idea in theory, but then reality hits. For many women, pregnancy pains are unbearable and the thought of going for a run, let alone getting up from the couch, seems out of reach. That is why many women are trying out a new form of exercise this summer: swimming!

Swimming is an easy exercise on your body that is also very effective at keeping your body in shape. The act of getting in the water alone, takes a huge weight off of your back, hips and ankles. Floating in the water can literally feel like lifting a weight from your body. Swimming a few laps a day will get in your exercise fix while also helping your pregnancy aches and pains. Moms are loving this form of exercise because it is also helping their comfort levels when they are out of the water too.

Leigh Ann Orsen of PopSugar swears by this technique. "My hips immediately began feeling better. The feeling of weightlessness in the pool was like heaven, and the therapeutic nature of swimming filled a void I had been missing for weeks. I had finally found the thing that worked. Not only did I feel better while I was swimming, but my hips continued to be pain-free when walking around outside of the pool as well," she wrote on PopSugar.

You don't have to do intense workouts to stay healthy during your pregnancy. A simple 10-15 swim laps a day is enough to keep your body active. The most important thing is that you listen to your body. If you can only do 5 laps, that's okay! If you want to do 30, all the better. Don't compare yourself to other fit moms on social media. Everyone has their own pregnancy journey. Just be active, listen to your body and don't be too hard on yourself!
