Welp. That was sufficiently awkward for everyone involved. Presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway opened the envelope to award the Academy Award and looked rather confused as they read "The Academy Award goes to La La Land."

Then all heck broke loose backstage as it was realized the presenters took the wrong envelope, according to USA Today:

"Around 3 a.m. ET, PriceWaterhouseCoopers would issue a statement explaining, "The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred."

As the La La Land cast and crew got news of the error, La La Land's producer Jordan Horowitz's held up the winning envelope showing the best picture winner was indeed Moonlight.

Many reactions to this historic flub were amazing but of course Meryl Streep gets the Academy Award for best reaction: Congratulations to all of last night's winners, nominees and those of us who watched from the comfort of our couches enjoying a pint of ice cream.
