Pool safety is no joke, especially this time of year. And no one is laughing at a Red Cross poster that's gone viral for what some say is a racist depiction of proper pool behavior.

It all began when Washington, D.C.-based John Sawyer tweeted that the poster, showing how to be "cool" at the pool was "super racist." Why? As ABC News points out, all of the "not cool" characters appear to be people of color, while the "cool," pool-rule abiders are white.

For its part, the Red Cross swiftly responded, thanking the Tweeter for bringing it to their attention, adding that they'd be removing it from their site and issuing new pool safety materials.

They also issued a statement that reads: "We deeply apologize for any misunderstanding, as it was absolutely not our intent to offend anyone. As one of the nation's oldest and largest humanitarian organizations, we are committed to diversity and inclusion in all that we do, every day."
