According to LIVESTRONG, as of last year the weight-loss industry was bringing in $33 billion dollars each year. Yes, you read that right. BILLION.

They report that roughly 45 million people go on diets each year in the United States. Many of those people make multiple attempts.

There are two definitions of diet:

  1. the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually
  2. a special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.

The truth is, eating healthy should be a part of your everyday lifestyle and not just a once-in-awhile thing or a way to shed those few extra pounds right before an event. When thinking about your diet, the first definition is the way to go.

Georgie Fear, RD, CSSD, founder of One by One Nutrition and author of Lean Habits For Lifelong Weight Loss, works with clients who are looking to eat mindfully and make healthy eating a part of their everyday habits. No quick-fixes or starvation necessary; just being aware of what you are eating. So what exactly, should we be eating?

"The best diet for women is one which includes all food groups," explains Fear. "It should be mostly unprocessed foods, with only about ten percent or less of calories from alcohol, desserts or highly processed food."

So you mean we can still have alcohol and dessert? It's true--and the key is moderation. That's where being mindful about what you are eating comes into play. You don't--and shouldn't--have to starve; you just need to eat well-rounded meals!
