Star Swain was just an ordinary tourist (with an extraordinary voice) from Tallahassee touring the Lincoln Memorial -- until her friends and family dared her to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," right then and there.

Swain was reluctant to sing, repeating "I'm scared," but she did not back down from the dare.

Taking advantage of the acoustics, she took a deep breath, swallowed her fears, and started belting out the national anthem. As she sang, tourists were still walking around, chatting, and going about their business.

But you can see the transformation as they slowly start to realize whats going on. The packed memorial becomes pin silent as the crowd gathers around Swain.

Her powerful rendition stunned everyone, and as she sang the last word, the room erupted into applause.

"People just started saying: 'That was awesome. Thank you,'" Swain told the Tallahassee Democrat. "One lady had tears in her eyes."

Swain's performance has been viewed millions of times on YouTube and Facebook, making the assistant principal an overnight sensation. She has been so overjoyed to receive so much support and attention that she even created a song as a thank-you, in which she repeats the phrases "over ten million views" and "I love you" several times.

She also posted thanks on her Facebook page:

We're just thankful for an uplifting viral video that's well-timed with its patriotism.
