There's a reason first responders are often referred to as heroes, and this story is a great reminder of that.

Police officer Nick Struck has gained national attention for his heartwrenching act of kindness for a 2-year-old girl who'd just lost her dad in a tragic car accident -- on Father's Day no less. When he arrived at the scene and was handed the inconsolable little tot, he started singing to her.

"Whenever my daughter falls down or gets hurt, I scoop her up and start singing 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' and by the time we get to 'up above,' she stops crying and starts singing along," Struck told Today.com.

It did the trick for this little one, too, he said.

A local station in Brighton, Colorado, where the accident occurred, spoke to Nick to hear more of the horrific-yet-heartwarming story. As for how he, as a first responder, came up with the idea to sing to comfort the toddler, he said "in our role, to keep kids safe...what would I want someone to do if it was my daughter?"
