This Is How One Woman Turned Body-Shaming Into A Totally Fierce Moment

Rachel Taylor was shopping at a Louisiana Old Navy when she overheard a girl and her mom making fun of one of the items of clothes there. The girl picked up a plus-size American flag top and showed it to her mother.

'Look! Me and So-and-so can fit in this tank top!' Her mom laughed and said, 'Yeah, you could! That thing is huge!'" Rachel recalled on Facebook. The problem? The tank was actually in Rachel's size.

As the girl and her mother walked away, Rachel broke down in tears. While it's unlikely that the mother and daughter meant to body-shame Rachel in particular, their actions had a profound effect on her. Initially, she walked out of the store and sat in her car crying with her husband. But after taking a minute to compose herself, she went back in, tried the top on, and took what we'd like to think was a rather life-affirming selfie.

"I ended up buying that tank top because, it turns out, I look fierce in it!" she wrote on Facebook. We tend to agree.

Rachel's story of embracing her inner fierceness has been shared more than 300,000 times now. Which just goes to show how important it is to be true to yourself. Or as Rachel said in her Facebook post, "Be kind. Think about others before you speak. And if someone hurts you, you have to move on."
