Joey and Donia have been engaged for two years, but recently their wedding planning has hit a wall. While Donia dreams of an elegant church wedding, Joey is looking for more of a small backyard affair. On the season premiere of TLC's new series I Want THAT Wedding, this engaged couple attended three weddings at different price points to determine whether they wanted to go all out with Donia's proposed budget of $35,000 or if they wanted to scale back to Joey's $10,000 budget. With the help of WeddingWire's Cost Guide, we're going to take a look at how the wedding expenses featured on the show compare to what couples are spending on their wedding day throughout the country!

First up is an outdoor wedding with a rustic vibe for Joey. Looking around at the spacious outdoor setting, Donia and Joey guessed the venue cost $5,000 to book, but the price tag actually came in at $8,500! Their guess would have worked in Dallas, or Atlanta where the average wedding venue costs around $4,500 - $5,000, but the actual cost was more typical for wedding venues in California or Chicago, which range from $8,000 to $9,000. If they wanted to head to the Big Apple to tie the knot, they'd blow most of their budget on the venue, which typically costs $10,000 to book! The newlyweds admitted that their biggest purchases were the venue and the dress, which came in at $4,000. This is on the higher side even for more expensive cities like New York, where the average cost of a wedding dress is $1,000. If they got married in Washington, D.C. they could have saved hundreds on a wedding gown, where the average cost is only $500!

Although Joey was smitten with the entire ceremony, it was time to try out a church wedding for Donia! They came to their first compromise over the catering. After some research, Donia admitted that a buffet was a good way to save some money while also allowing guests to have more options. Did you know the average couple spends around $2,500 on catering in California, whereas, couples in Chicago spend around $6,000 on average, and newlyweds in New York spend $10,000 on average! Speaking of food, Donia and Joey were also impressed by the cupcake bar. This was a smart way to save money on cake, which costs an average $550 everywhere from Atlanta, to DC, to Chicago!

Donia and Joey were hoping the third wedding would be just right, hitting a happy medium of an indoor venue with an outdoor vibe. The couple was immediately impressed by the wedding musician. Although they guessed around $500, the live singer cost $750 to book. Their guess was right at the average cost of wedding musicians in California, DC and Chicago, but they could have pinched some pennies if they got married in Dallas, where wedding singers cost on average $413 to book. Donia and Joey want to live it up on their wedding night, so a DJ is a must. They estimated that the DJ at this wedding must have cost around $1000, but the actual cost came in at $780. Typically, you have to pay up to get the party started, with DJ's costing an average of $1,300 in California, DC, and Chicago, and shooting all the way up to $1,650 in New York!
