Savory, Saucy Spaghetti Donuts Have Arrived

One of the most famous ways to use your leftover pasta is to remake it into spaghetti pie, a Neapolitan masterpiece that combines the uneaten noodles and sauce with eggs and cheese before baking it into a crispy, rich dish. But since spaghetti pie is not exactly portable, Brooklyn's Pop Pasta has given the iconic food a remake of its own: the spaghetti donut.


The donuts, billed as "slow food meets fast food" on the Pop Pasta site, were one of the breakout stars of the first weekend at Smorgasburg, the annual Brooklyn food market. The restaurant currently offers the donuts in five different varieties: olive oil and garlic; red sauce; zucchini, carbonara, and Bolognese. Think of them as a savory complement to the cronut, Chef Dominique Ansel's croissant-donut hybrid -- or just think of them as a portable (and truly inspired) way to gain a new appreciation for spaghetti.
