Runner’s Hacks Athletes of Any Level Will Love

If running is your jam and you log serious miles every day, or you've been thinking about lacing up those running shoes to get yourself back into shape, check out these runner's hacks before you hit the road or the treadmill for a better workout.

  • Prep your after run snack or meal before you go. This way you can motivate yourself while you run and you won't make poor food choices because you are hungry and starving after a run.
  • Even runners need to change up their workouts. On days you aren't running, find a strength training or weight lifting class, go for a swim, or stretch out your muscles in a yoga class. Even though you aren't logging miles, these other workouts will help you become a better runner
  • If your music isn't motivating you on long runs, try downloading a few podcasts to listen to as you rack up those miles.
  • While some runners swear by showering in your running clothes to get rid of the smell, tossing some white vinegar into your wash will help remove the smells
  • A cup of coffee a half hour before you run will give you an extra boost during your workout.
  • Relieve sore feet from running by filling a water bottle 3/4 with water and freezing it. Roll and stretch your foot across the bottle to ease swelling and pain.
  • To prevent blisters, wear pantyhose under your socks. You can also cut the panty hose around your ankles so you don't have to wear them on your legs.
  • Wrap a hair tie around your keys, then tuck the keys into the laces of your shoes for a hands free run.
  • If you find a running shoe that fits well and feels great on your feet, buy two pairs at once--especially when they're on sale. Rotate the shoes so they last longer and you always know you have a pair of running shoes that you love.
  • If you had a little too much fun and a little too much to drink last night, that's all the more reason to go for a run. When you sweat, you're increasing blood flow and flushing out all the toxins in your body. Just be sure to drink a lot of water before and after.
