You no longer have to feel guilty about pouring a third or even a fourth cup of coffee during the day because now you can say the extra boost from your favorite caffeinated drink is all in the name of good health.

According to a new study published in The BMJ British medical journal coffee drinkers who consume three to four cups of coffee a day are more likely to see health benefits than harm. Coffee drinkers can experience lower rates of premature death, cardiovascular disease, and liver disease, but the health benefits don't stop there.

Drinking a three to four cups of Joe each day is also associated with lower rates of type 2 diabetes, gallstones and dementia as well as a decrease in several types of cancer -- including prostate, endometrial, skin, leukemia and liver.

The study does note while drinking three to four cups of coffee a day offers many health benefits, pregnant women and people who are prone to bone fractures should stay away from drinking this many cups of coffee.

For the study, scientists examined more than 200 previous coffee related studies and analyzed the findings. However, not everyone is raising their coffee mug in celebration of this study. Public health specialists are reminding coffee drinkers that adding sugars and unhealthy fats to your coffee can cause negative health outcomes that outweigh the health benefits. So if you are brave enough to drink your coffee, black--go for it.

So while we might not be able to sleep at night because we are all jazzed up on caffeine, at least we are doing something for our health every time we fill up our coffee mug.
