Sparkler Infront Of American Flag

If you weren't convinced before last weekend's heat wave, it's officially summer! And one of the season's biggest celebrations is right around the corner. July Fourth is the holiday for taking advantage of the best summer has to offer--warm temperatures, back yard grilling, and a dip in some cool water.

It's also a great opportunity for a quick getaway. Here's our curated list of some of the top July Fourth celebrations worth checking out.

Eastport, ME

Eastport's Fourth of July celebration is one of the grandest in the Northeast and the largest in the state of Maine. With outdoor entertainment, sports games, an antique car show, arts and crafts, and a visiting U.S. Navy ship, there's something for each and every person. The northeastern city is also a popular destination for Canadians looking to get in on America's birthday celebration.

Don Dunbar

Williamsburg, VA

Colonial Williamsburg is the place to go for some patriotic fun. This Independence Day, celebrate America's history with a reading of the Declaration of Independence on the courthouse steps, followed by a Fife and Drum Corps salute. Take in the sights and reenactments during the day and enjoy the spectacular fireworks at night!

New Orleans, LA

New Orleans is best known for its music, food, and laissez les bons temps roules--and its annual July Fourth celebration is no different! If you're looking for a good time, Go Fourth on the River is the event for you. Take in the dueling barges fireworks display while enjoying live music with a Hurricane in hand.

Austin, TX

In Austin, the entire city turns out for Independence Day celebrations. From music festivals to shrimp boils and barbecues, the city is abuzz. Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic is a must-do for music lovers. And Austin Symphony's July 4th Concert and Fireworks is one of the best fireworks shows in the country.

Austin 360 Amphitheater

St. Louis, MO

Fair Saint Louis touts itself as America's Biggest Birthday Party--and, we can confirm, it doesn't disappoint. In addition to enjoying great music, food, and fireworks, at Fair Saint Louis you can check out and demo new products, ride a zip line or human slingshot, and shop 'till you drop.

Denver, CO

Big fan of the arts? Well, then Denver is the spot for you this Fourth of July. The Cherry Creek Arts Festival is Denver's annual celebration of the visual, performing and culinary arts. Every year, it provides over 350,000 visitors the opportunity to "meet and talk with international visual artists, enjoy a wide range of family-friendly fun and sample fine cuisine." Round things out by taking in the fireworks shows on July third and fourth.

Big Sky, MT

Whether for Independence Day festivities or any other occasion, Big Sky is a breathtakingly beautiful town to visit. The scenic mountain back drop and crystal blue river are enough to convert even the most avid city dweller into an outdoors(wo)man. Big Sky is a great place to celebrate the Fourth of July for those who like to stay active. Festivities include a 5K race, a Disc Golf and a Basketball Tournament, a Home Run Derby, a Skate Park Jam, and plenty of kids' activities. Also, fret not, there will be plenty of barbecue as well as a pig roast!

The Ranch at Rock Creek

San Diego, CA

Beautiful beaches, the best weather, and spectacular fireworks--yes, we're talking about San Diego. San Diego is the place to go for a relaxingly enjoyable Fourth of July celebration. Spend your days on the sand, soaking up the rays, and your evenings in town, taking in the spectacular fireworks. This will be one of those getaways you'll be glad you took--but be careful, you might wind up wanting to stay forever.

While July Fourth celebrations may look slightly different depending on where you choose to celebrate, one constant holds true: It is the holiday to get outside and enjoy the best of summer. Wishing you a happy and fun Independence Day!
