We try to give our kids the best days possible. We take them out for ice cream, to amusements parks and surprise them with new toys. Parents everywhere empty their wallets in hopes to keep their children happy. However, one mom realized that it isn't all about buying things when it comes to a kid's happiness.

After a seemingly normal day running errands with her family, blogger Nikki Pennington, looked at her son as he said, "Mom this is the best day ever!" She was surprised to hear this. They hadn't done anything special that day. They hadn't even so much given them a piece of candy. Nikki kept thinking about this for the rest of the day until she finally asked her son what made it the best day ever. He replied with a heartwarming response that opened Nikki's eyes.

"It was when we went on a yard sale hunt. It was when we held hands with Dad in the parking lot. It was when you let me pick out the color of paint for our room. It was when you turned the music up really loud, rolled down the windows and we sang at the top of our lungs. It was when you held my hand in the store and we snuck off just me and you to go look at the pretty lights. It was the best day of my life."

After hearing this Nikki realized that parents get so caught up in buying material things to make their kids happy. Parents focus on getting new toys, elaborative Pinterest crafts and electronics. This made her step back and realize that kids are easily pleased. Many kids do appreciate the simple things and often it's the parents who think they need to go above and beyond. Take the pressure off of yourself and realize that it's the little things that matter. Sometimes the best days are the simple ones!
