When one mom tried to treat her child with a piece of leftover cake for lunch, she surely couldn't have predicted what would come next: a note from her child's school criticizing her decision and a subsequent storm on social media.

But that is just what she got.

After slipping a leftover piece of cake in her child's lunch box, this mother in Australia received a note from her child's school telling her to "choose healthier options for Kindy." In Australia, Kindy means kindergarten. The woman's friend, Melinda Tankard Reist, shared a photo of the note on her Facebook page.

"I told her to put in two slices tomorrow and tell them to get lost," captioned Reist who is an Australia-based speaker, blogger, author and more.

So far, 536 people have shared Reist's photo of the note and 850 have commented on it. In many comments, people criticize the school for trying to tell this mother what she can and can't feed her children.

What do you think of this burgeoning debacle?
