Man Vs. Shark: Is Michael Phelps Really Racing a Shark During Shark Week?

Michael Phelps is the most successful Olympian of all time and we are pretty sure he can beat just about any other swimmer while in the pool. So maybe he is feeling like it's time to take on a different type of opponent. However, the next swimmer he takes he will face won't need a swim cap or even goggles while in the water because the next race for Phelps will be against a great white shark.

Shark Week, which will run on the Discovery Channel from July 23 through July 30, is promising "the world's most decorated athlete takes on the ocean's most efficient predator," in a show called Phelps vs. Shark: Great Gold vs. Great White.

While everyone is tight lipped about how exactly this race will take place, Discovery just released the first teaser--making us more curious than ever!

While Phelps has a top speed of six miles per hour in the water, a great white can reach and impressive 25 miles per hour when hunting in the ocean but tend to cruise at around five miles per hour. It seems that our favorite Olympian is at a bit of a disadvantage, but that hasn't quieted the buzz from this match up. The internet has been busy speculating how the race will take shape and bringing back the hilarious Phelps face memes to get him into race mode.

To find out this race shakes out, we will all have to tune in during Shark Week.
