How “OutDaughtered” Star Danielle Busby Went from Eating 4,500 Calories to Finding Time for Fitness

As a mom to six girls, there never seems to be enough time to do the things I want to do, like working out. I'm sure other moms feel exactly the same way! Before I had quintuplets, I honestly felt like I was in the best shape of my life (see the photo below for evidence).

Going from a mom of one child, to a mom of six children was a hard adjustment. All of a sudden, my priorities shifted. During my quintuplet pregnancy, I was 'doing what I have to for the babies'. That meant going on a 4,500-calorie diet a day and forgetting everything I learned about eating clean and healthy foods. I had to literally eat my dessert before I could eat the salad on my plate. Though that idea sounds good in theory, in practice, it was exhausting. Worst of all, it took the pleasure out of eating ice. So, of course, my 'best' was now out the window.

Exercising is something I enjoy doing and it is something that makes me feel better about myself (and helps offset the Oreos I ate today, LOL). There are days I am actually able to get away and go to the gym, but as a mom of six, it doesn't happen too often, and I try my best to do workouts at home.

My new workout routine

I've customized my routine to fit in with my daily schedule. To build strength, I do sit-ups and push-ups every day. And forget about the Stairmaster -- I utilize our staircase for daily workouts too, on top of the "workout" I get bringing five babies up and down the stairs all day. When I don't have a baby in my arms, I run up and down the steps, skipping every other step, too -- every extra bit counts, right? I calculated one day that I do around 700 stairs a day, and that's at a minimum! I can carry two babies at a time upstairs, so it makes three trips to just get them all upstairs.

Most of my days involve the babies, so almost every day, I break out the six seater stroller and go for a walk/jog. I load up the quints and push about 200 pounds around the neighborhood while Blayke rides her bike -- now that's a workout for ya!! There are also small hills around the neighborhood lakes and I love that I get just a little bit of an extra push during the 'stroller workout.'

When I actually have some time to myself (which is rare), I will either head to the gym and do a mix of classes: -- my favorites include aerobics, booty barre, and yoga. Or, I'll crank up the music and go run a few miles around the neighborhood. I love to stop every half-mile or mile, depending on my mood that day, and do a mix of exercises, including sit-ups, push-ups, jump squats, tricep dips, lunges, and planks. Nothing like a workout outdoors!

Though my life is full of babies, babies, babies, babies, babies, there is always time for a little workout! You just have to put your mind to it and go!
