If you're getting ready to serve vanilla ice cream on a hot summer day, stop! There's no reason to dish out boring vanilla when you can easily turn it into rainbow tie dye ice cream. Grab your kids because they'll want help you make this super easy and super delicious ice cream treat.

Here's what you need:

  • Half gallon of vanilla ice cream in its cardboard container
  • 6 packets of flavored gelatin, each a different color of the rainbow

Here's what you do:

While the ice cream is still inside the cardboard container, divide the ice cream into six portions and place each portion on a separate bowl or plate. To cut the ice cream, just run your knife under warm water for a few seconds.

Starting with any color, sprinkle 3-4 tablespoons of the flavored gelatin on the bottom of the cardboard box. Then as if you are making a lasagna, make layers. Top the gelatin with one of the portions of the ice cream. A spoon warmed under water will help this process. Then cover the ice cream with another layer of the gelatin in a different color. Repeat the layers until all colors and all ice cream have been used in the layers. Be sure your top layer is ice cream.

Seal the ice cream container and place it back in the freezer overnight.

When you're ready to serve the ice cream, you'll want to make sure everyone gets all of the colors in their ice cream. To do this, scoop your ice cream from the sides rather than digging into the top of the ice cream. This way you scoop across all of the layers and colors. Enjoy!
