In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America, schools across the county are celebrating their love of reading and all of the wacky stories Dr. Suess shared with us. To keep the excitement of reading going when your kids get home, here are two simple and healthy snacks you and your kids can make together. So snuggle up, grab your favorite Dr. Seuss Book, and enjoy a little something yummy with your kids.

The Lorax Orange

Here's what you'll need:

  • Small orange, clementine or tangerine
  • Glue dots
  • Googly eyes
  • Yellow construction paper
  • Scissors

Here's what you do:

Start by using the glue dots to attach the googly eyes to the fruit. Then fold the yellow construction paper in half and cut out his mustache. The top part of the mustache is a half moon and the bottom is scalloped. Use the glue dots to attach the mustache. That's it! So simple and so cute!

Cat in the Hat Marshmallow Pops

Here's what you'll need:

  • Marshmallows
  • Strawberries
  • Bananas
  • Edible marker
  • Lollipop sticks

Here's what you'll do:

Start by using the edible marker to draw a cat face on the marshmallow. Then push the marshmallow halfway down the lollipop stick. Slice the banana and cut off the tops of the strawberry and slice into three pieces. Layer the fruit on top of the marshmallow starting with a banana, then the largest piece of the strawberry until you've reached the top of the stick where you'll use the bottom of the strawberry to become the hat. Quick, easy, and delicious!
