Fitness Hacks to Keep You Motivated and Going to the Gym

You've made it your goal to go the gym and work on your health and fitness goals. Look at you making yourself a priority! Now you're a few weeks in, and while you started out strong, life happens and you may find yourself losing motivation. So rather than lacing up your running shoes, you're thinking about hiding under a blanket and binge watching your favorite TLC shows instead of heading off to the gym. So before you decide to skip your workout, try these fitness hacks to get you motivated and get you to the gym.

Reward Yourself- If you are going to the gym consistently, you'll feel healthier and your clothes will probably fit better too, but in the moment you are deciding whether or not to skip your work out, promise yourself a reward like a delicious smoothie post-workout or if you've make it to the gym three times this week, go ahead and treat yourself with those new running shoes you've been eyeing up.

Change Up Your Workout- If you are dreading a long run on the treadmill, then change your plan and find a yoga class to take instead, take your dog on an extra-long walk, or swim a few laps in the pool. Don't dread your workouts. Find a workout that motivates you on that day. The goal is to get yourself moving!

Give Yourself 15 Minutes- Play mind games with yourself and agree to be active for at least 15 minutes, and if you want to stop, you can. Chances are, once you start working out, you'll keep going beyond the 15 minutes.

Dress the Part- Instead of putting on your pajamas when you get home from work, get into your gym clothes and shoes. Do this before you leave work for the day. This little trick will motivate you to head to the gym rather than head home.

Create a New Playlist- If music motivates you, change up your workout tunes to songs you know will get you moving and excited to work out. Listen to those songs while you get your gym clothes on and as you head out the door and right to the gym.

Get a Workout Buddy- You'll be less likely to cancel a workout if someone is counting on you to show up.

Binge Watch While Working Out- Take your tablet or phone with you to the gym and binge watch your favorite show while you are on the treadmill or elliptical machine. Instead of laying on your couch to watch TV, tell yourself you can only watch this show while you workout.
