Ed Hemmes and his wife Christy have known each other for a long time -- longer than most. That's because the couple met when they were in third grade, though it took quite a bit longer for them to get around to getting married.

And they have Facebook to thank for that.

The pair, who grew up in Randolph, New Jersey, went to the same elementary school, but never spoke again after Christy moved to a different town in the fourth grade. Years and years later, a mutual friend put a photo of their third grade class on Facebook, and Ed remembered that he'd had a massive crush on Christy. "I was tagging everyone in the photo and when I got to her photo I wrote, 'Christy Young. Loved her!'" he told BuzzFeed News.

Slightly embarrassed after realizing that Christy had seen his comment, he reached out to her and "apologized for professing his third grade crush."

And that's when the two began their adult relationship. He eventually proposed at the elementary school where ether originally met so many years ago. The pair married in 2013 and now have a daughter together. Despite it all working out for the two of them, they caution others to be careful about meeting strangers online.

"I would always advise people to use caution on social media," said Ed. "But always be willing to look up and say 'hello' to anyone they see in their life."
