As texting, tweeting and snap-chatting quickly replaces telephone calls and neighborly visits, it's easy to forget how much a simple old-fashioned card could mean to someone. But if that someone is going through a hard time, it's tricky to find the words to convey exactly what you mean, and a text that says "bummer, dude" just won't cut it.

Luckily, Cancer survivor Emily McDowell, 24, has made it super easy for you by creating a series of cards she wished she received from friends and family while she battled Stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma. After nine months of chemo therapy and radiation, Emily beat the disease but realized she could have used more support along the way. On her website, Emily points out:

"Most of us struggle to find the right words in the face of a friend or loved one's major health crisis, whether it's cancer, chronic illness, mental illness, or anything else. It's a really tough problem; someone we love needs our support more than ever, but we don't have the right language for it."
