Safyre Terry hasn't had an easy life. When she was just six years old, her father and three younger siblings were killed in a fire. She survived because her father selflessly cradled Safyre in his arms, protecting her from breathing in hot air.

Now, the 8-year-old is adjusting to her new normal. After the fire, she had burns on more than 75 percent of her body, lost her left foot and right hand, stayed in hospitals for 9 months, and underwent more than 50 surgeries.

Thankfully, her aunt, Liz Dolder, welcomed her into her family (her mother signed over custodial rights to the state and Dolder become her guardian) and kept friends, family, and supporters updated on her progress through the Facebook page Safyre Schenectady's Super Survivor.

"Safyre lost everything -- her father, her mother, her sister, her brothers, her home, her favorite toy, her favorite outfit -- everything that was familiar to her," Dolder told TODAY Parents. "She even lost the one thing we all take for granted -- her reflection. But she wakes every morning with a smile on her face. She is the true definition of hope, faith and love."

This Christmas, Dolder bought Safyre a metal Christmas card holder. Safyre wanted to fill it with Christmas cards, but Dolder warned her that it may be difficult to accumulate that may cards. To help, she shared a photo of Safyre in front of the tree on her Facebook page, and Kevin Clark, a supporter of the family, asked to share the photo, along with an address where people could send cards to Safyre.

I wonder how many of my friends would take the time to write and send Safyre a Merry Christmas card that she can hang on her card tree....Safyre P.O. Box 6126Schenectady NY 12306

Safyre's story is being shared all over the Internet (and the world), and the cards have been rolling in, with 14 at the time this article was written, but we're sure she can expect a lot more! "Safyre is a typical 8-year-old -- she's just wrapped in a different package," said Dolder. "Once you meet her, she is unforgettable."

If you'd like to send a card, mail it to this address: P.O. Box 6126, Schenectady, NY, 12306. And if you'd like to donate to her medical bills, her family began a You Caring fundraising site. Either way, here's hoping Safyre gets exactly what she wants this year -- a Christmas tree full of cards!
